As I wrote about here, Virgin Atlantic joined the SkyTeam alliance on March 2nd.
Virgin Atlantic is now aligned with the other 18 airlines that make up SkyTeam. This gives its flyers lots of opportunities to earn and redeem miles around the world.
Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club elite members will now earn SkyTeam elite benefits. As a refresher, here are what those benefits include:
SkyTeam Elite
- Priority reservation waitlist
- Priority airport standby
- Priority check-in
- Extra baggage allowance
- Priority boarding
- Preferred seats
- Mileage upgrades
SkyTeam Elite Plus
- All of the above
- SkyTeam Elite benefits
- Guaranteed reservations
- SkyPriority
- Priority security and immigration
- Lounge access on international flights
- Priority baggage handling
A signing ceremony was held in London today. Virgin Atlantic became SkyTeam’s first and only UK member airline. This enhances the alliance’s transatlantic network with hubs in London Heathrow (LHR) and Manchester (MAN) airports.
Virgin Atlantic customers will now benefit from SkyTeam’s seamless customer experience across 1,000 destinations in over 170 countries. This further enhances the joint venture that Virgin Atlantic has been in with Delta Air Lines and Air France-KLM.
The CEO of Virgin Atlantic, Shai Weiss, remarked:
SkyTeam shares a customer first ethos that mirrors our own and our entry into the alliance today marks an important milestone in achieving our vision to become the most-loved travel company. We want to reward those who choose to fly with Virgin Atlantic and our Flying Club members deserve the very best loyalty proposition. Our SkyTeam membership offers this through a global network of maximised reward opportunities, alongside enhanced services on the ground and in the skies.”
Anthony’s Take: Virgin Atlantic has been on my list of airlines to try as I have heard good things about the Upper Class in-flight experience. With the airline joining SkyTeam and my focus on earning Delta Diamond Medallion® status this year, there is a chance I will fly them soon. Welcome to SkyTeam, Virgin Atlantic!
