I love a good special livery. JetBlue Airways has brought back one of its most beloved ones with the debut of “Blueprint II,” a redesigned version of the airline’s fan-favorite Blueprint aircraft now painted on a next-generation Airbus A220. The aircraft entered scheduled service today and it marks the return of a livery that originally debuted in 2017 on JetBlue’s Embraer E190 fleet.
The original Blueprint design quickly became one of the airline’s most recognizable special liveries thanks to its imaginative “see-through” artwork that blended the aircraft’s internal structure with illustrations inspired by travel and everyday life. The design featured playful items ranging from pizza slices and coffee cups to potted plants and luggage to reflect the personality and travel experiences of JetBlue customers and crewmembers.
Following the retirement of JetBlue’s Embraer E190 fleet in September 2025 as part of the airline’s transition to an all-Airbus fleet, the original Blueprint livery was retired as well. Now, Blueprint II revives the concept with updated artwork, larger visuals, and dozens of hidden details spread across the aircraft. Among the new design elements are:
- An oversized teddy bear seated like a passenger
- A crown representing London, JetBlue’s first European destination
- A sextant inside the cockpit area honoring aviation navigation history
- Snorkels, fins, floaties, and beach-themed details inspired by JetBlue’s warm-weather leisure destinations
The aircraft also includes numerous hidden “Easter eggs” throughout the livery designed to encourage aviation enthusiasts and travelers to discover new details over time. JetBlue has long used special aircraft liveries as a key part of its branding strategy, creating colorful and often whimsical aircraft designs that stand out across airports in the United States and abroad. Blueprint II continues that tradition while also showcasing JetBlue’s modernized fleet strategy centered around the Airbus A220 and Airbus A320 family aircraft.
The return of Blueprint also reflects the strong popularity the original aircraft developed among customers, crewmembers, and plane spotters during its years flying across JetBlue’s network. JetBlue has a handy guide to all of its special liveries (found here). There are so many cool ones.

Anthony’s Take: With Blueprint II now in service, JetBlue says the new aircraft is designed to continue sparking curiosity and bringing a sense of fun and discovery to the travel experience. I hope to see it in the wild.
