United Airlines is kicking off its Summer 2026 schedule this week with its latest expansion into Europe. I first wrote about how the carrier is adding new destinations across Croatia, Italy, Scotland, and Spain while increasing overall transatlantic capacity back in January.
At peak summer travel times, the airline will operate up to 210 daily flights between the United States and 36 European destinations, including Greenland, with 14 routes not served by any other US network carrier.

United’s latest expansion introduces several new nonstop routes to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). These include:
- Split Airport (SPU): First-ever nonstop service begins April 30th with 3x weekly flights
- Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI): 4x weekly flights start May 1st (I’ll be flying this route later this summer)
- Glasgow Airport (GLA): Daily nonstop service launches May 8th
- Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport (SCQ): 3x weekly flights will begin May 27th
Additionally, United will begin flying daily between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Keflavík International Airport (KEF) on May 21st. These routes provide direct access to a mix of coastal, cultural, and historic destinations across Europe.
United is also resuming several seasonal routes to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) that were introduced during its huge 2025 expansion. These include:
- Faro Airport (FAO): 4x weekly flights begin May 15th
- Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport (FNC): 3x weekly flights start May 16th
- Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO): 3x weekly flights begin May 22nd
- Bilbao Airport (BIO): 3x weekly flights start May 30th
- Nuuk Airport (GOH): 2x weekly flights begin June 6th
United’s expansion reflects a shift in traveler preferences with increasing demand for less traditional European destinations. Coastal regions, cultural hubs, and off-the-beaten-path cities are seeing strong interest. This builds upon the success of the airline’s 2025 summer schedule.
Anthony’s Take: With this latest growth, United continues to position itself as the leading US carrier for transatlantic travel. It offers more unique destinations and greater flexibility for summer travelers seeking new experiences across Europe. I love that United flies to so many destinations nonstop from the US and can’t wait to try out the Bari flight.
