Terminal 2, known as the Queen’s Terminal, is the base for 23 of Star Alliance’s member airlines. They transport more than 120 flights daily and serves 15 million passengers each year (which is about 20% of the seat capacity for the airport). The gorgeous terminal was opened 10 years ago in a strategic move to get all of the Star Alliance airlines in one space. This was a brilliant move as it can be a beast to transit terminals at London Heathrow Airport (LHR).
The Queen’s Terminal provides Star Alliance passengers with a seamless airport experience. This includes:
- Gold Track Security: Dedicated security lanes for Star Alliance Gold status customers (regardless of the cabin they are traveling).
- Baggage Tracking: This service allows passengers to track their bags throughout their journey. Each day 85,000 bags transit the Star Alliance member airline flights.
- Star Connection Center: This service helps expedite passengers with tight connections. It provides fast-track access through the airport.
- Complimentary Heathrow Express Upgrade: Star Alliance Gold status customers enjoy exclusive and free upgrades to the Business First cabin on Heathrow Express between the airport and Paddington station. Starting this month, this is being extended to one travel companion.
The Star Alliance carriers who have made Terminal 2 their home include:
- Aegean Airlines
- Air Canada
- Air China
- Air India
- ANA
- Asiana Airlines
- Austrian
- Avianca
- Brussels Airlines
- Croatia Airlines
- EGYPTAIR
- Ethiopian Airlines
- EVA Air
- LOT Polish Airlines
- Lufthansa
- Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) (until it departs Star Alliance)
- Shenzhen Airlines
- Singapore Airlines
- SWISS
- TAP Air Portugal
- THAI
- Turkish Airlines
- United
These carriers currently provide 124 flights a day to 44 destinations in 23 countries.
Ross Baker, Chief Customer Officer at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), said:
Heathrow is delighted to celebrate a decade of delivering excellent service to passengers traveling through Terminal 2, previously voted ‘Best Terminal in the World’ at the World Sky Awards by Skytrax. In collaboration with our partner airlines, including Star Alliance and its member airlines, we have seen almost 73 million passengers travel through Terminal 2’s doors and enjoy the world-class retail and food and beverage options available. Reaching this landmark is an opportunity for us to enjoy looking back on a decade of achievements, while also looking ahead to the next ten years as we continue to create an extraordinary airport that is fit for the future.”
Anthony’s Take: I love Terminal 2 (although it does require a lot of walking). It has a great collection of lounges including Air Canada Maple Leaf™ Lounge, the Lufthansa Business Lounge and Lufthansa Senator Lounge, Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge, and United Club℠ and lots of fun shopping. Happy 10th T2!
