The Blue Palace in Crete was part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection. I stayed there several times through the years dating back to when the hotel was part of Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). Now, it has closed for renovations and when it reopens in 2025, it will become part of Rosewood.

The Blue Palace always felt special. The service was great, breakfast offered some of the most amazing Greek yogurt I’ve ever tasted, and I loved having a private infinity pool. While some of the furnishings were starting to show their age and were in need of refreshing, my husband and I always loved the hotel. Its beach was inviting and a quick boat ride to Spinalonga Island was a nice day trip right from the hotel.

One Mile at a Time reports that the hotel will be closed until summer 2025 while it undergoes a makeover. The updated property will have 154 rooms and suites including 85 with private pools. Interiors will play on Cretan traditions and be designed by Grecian firm, K-Studio.

Anthony’s Take: I have never stayed at a Rosewood property and am going to miss this one not being part of Marriott in the future. As I mentioned, it’s always been a special property for my husband and me, so maybe we’ll return even if we can’t earn points and benefits for our stay.

It’s wonderful — we stayed there in 2015 and my wife in particular loved it
