A few weeks ago, I wrote about Icelandair planning a new route for October. The Icelandic airline confirmed today that it will begin flying nonstop between Keflavík Airport (KEF) and Miami International Airport (MIA) later this year.
Icelandair will fly this route nonstop with an Airbus A321LR aircraft that offers 22 Saga Premium and 165 are Economy Class seats. Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair President and CEO, said:
We are thrilled to be opening a new gateway from Europe to sunny Florida via Iceland and from Miami to Iceland and beyond. With the new long-range and fuel-efficient Airbus aircraft, we are able to add new and exciting destinations and Miami is a great addition. Miami will fit well into our route network, with convenient connections via Iceland to our 34 destinations in Europe. Welcome aboard Miami!”
With this addition, Miami International Airport (MIA) will be the only airport in Florida with nonstop flights to all five countries in Scandinavia. Reykjavik will become the airport’s 21st European destination across carriers. This seasonal route will run October 26th through March 29th.
Icelandair will soon fly to the following 15 US cities:
- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Denver International Airport (DEN)
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)
- Nashville International Airport (BNA)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)
- Portland International Airport (PDX)
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
The last city added to Icelandair’s US coverage before Miami was Nashville International Airport (BNA). This will launch on May 16th and run 4x weekly.
Anthony’s Take: Icelandair continues to add to its route map and offer more nonstop flights to/from the United States. Besides visiting Iceland, these provide an affordable way to get to Europe.
