In April 2023, I wrote about Hyatt Studios. It marked the company’s entry into upper-midscale lodging in the Americas (competitors like Comfort Inn, Hampton by Hilton, and Holiday Inn fall within this category). The first two locations were announced last August (in Mobile, AL and Marysville, CA). We got details around how Hyatt Studios will participate in the World of Hyatt® program last June and today the first location opened in Mobile, AL.
Hyatt Studios is Hyatt’s 27th brand and it joins Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, and Caption by Hyatt in the select-service category. The brand is designed to accommodate both leisure and business guests for both quick and extended stays. Hyatt collaborated with developers on the design with a target segment in mind. Like other extended-stay brands, food-and-beverage options will include complimentary breakfast as well as a 24-hour market. Self-service laundry, a 24-Hour Fitness Studio, an outdoor patio with a firepit and grill, and an expanded Borrows Program, where guests can borrow items like blenders, board games, and items for kids and pets round out the amenities.
Dan Hansen, Global head of Hyatt Studios, said:
The grand opening of Hyatt Studios Mobile / Tillmans Corner marks an exciting milestone as we continue to expand our offerings to meet the growing demand for extended stay accommodations. This is just the beginning for the Hyatt Studios brand as the brand demonstrates enthusiasm among hotel owners and developers for this brand. We’re proud to celebrate the grand opening with 3H Group and LBA Hospitality, whose dedication has brought the Hyatt Studios vision to life.”
Hyatt Studios Mobile/Tillmans Corners offers 122 studio apartment-style suites that are equipped with kitchens (including a full-size refrigerator, built-in cooktop, microwave with air fryer and convection-oven capabilities, dishwasher, and essential cookware). Each suite also includes a sleeping area along with a separate lounge area featuring a sofa or sleeper sofa, a multifunctional table, and ample storage space for long-term stays.
As we learned last year, World of Hyatt® members will earn one elite night per night. Stays at Hyatt Studios will count toward the Brand Explorer promotion and those with World of Hyatt’s credit cards will earn 4x points at these hotels. Points earning is cut in half, however. Stays earn 2.5x points per $1 spent at Hyatt Studios properties (versus the usual 5x points). Standard tier bonus points on qualifying purchases will also be awarded for elite members. All elite members get Premium Internet and Globalists can choose 500 Bonus Points or a $15 credit per stay at the 24/7 Market.
Anthony’s Take: I am not the target demo for this brand as most of my stays are one to two nights. I like that Hyatt seems to be anticipating the needs of guests with the amenities and program for lending items. The World of Hyatt® benefits and earnings are a bit weak, however.
