Hyatt announced today that it’s opening the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Belize with The Placencia Resort. It will enter the Hyatt portfolio as an affiliated hotel before joining the Destination by Hyatt brand late in 2025.

The Placencia Resort is located on the Placencia Peninsula. This 13-mile long beach in southern Belize is near the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere. When it reopens, following a $10 million renovation, it will offer 90 guest rooms, suites, and beachfront villas. Guests will find a new three-meal restaurant, indoor/outdoor event space, an overwater signature restaurant and bar, and a new pool and pool bar experience. The resort will also feature a spa and an indoor/outdoor biophilic gym.

David Kuperberg, Head of Development, Dream Hotels at Hyatt:

We’re excited to welcome guests to a new destination within the Hyatt portfolio and allow them to explore the breadth and beauty of Belize and what The Placencia Resort has to offer. These plans for the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Belize reinforces our thoughtful brand growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, and we remain dedicated to meeting our guests where they want to be. We’re thankful to have worked alongside Maya Rio Development on this transition and look forward to bringing the Destination by Hyatt brand to Belize in late 2025.”

The resort will be home to Belize’s largest swimming pool. Additionally, it will offer guests experiences like complimentary kayaking, paddle boarding, bicycles, as well as private beach access. The resort also will offer activities like fishing expeditions, private boat charters, bespoke island immersions, scuba diving, and snorkeling.

Once it joins the Destination by Hyatt brand in late 2025, World of Hyatt members will be able to earn  and redeem points on stays. The Placencia Resort advances Hyatt’s Latin America and Caribbean brand growth strategy. The Destination by Hyatt brand portfolio continues to grow in Central America with the recent opening of The Legend Paracas Resort in Peru and Cas En Bas Beach Resort St. Lucia opening in 2025.

Anthony’s Take: Belize is beautiful. I enjoyed a visit to San Pedro a few years ago and would love to check out this resort and the nearby reef.

While I’ve never been to Belize I’ve heard that it’s a pleasant and very reasonably priced country. Given those basics I’d be interested in staying at the new resort.
