I’ve written about Global Airlines in the past. The British startup is looking to fly longhaul, international flights from London Gatwick Airport (LGW). The carrier now has four Airbus A380 aircraft and it wants to launch this year. While the airline has planes, it does not yet have gates or slots to permit it to fly from London to New York, Los Angeles, or wherever else it wants. Press releases make it sound like these are imminent, but dates have slipped a bit. Global Airlines has launched a loyalty program called Global Aviator™ and it’s offering status matches even though the airline is not flying.
The post above appeared on Instagram yesterday. It offers status matches that last two years for flyers with status held on oneworld®, Star Alliance, or SkyTeam airlines. There is no link to apply for the status match or any breakdown of the criteria, but the cards look snazzy.
From what I can tell, there will be five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Titanium. Benefits have also not been shared around each status level.
In August 2023, the airline signed a champagne partnership with Laurent Perrier. A joint announcement released today states that “Laurent Perrier Champagne will be the premier champagne on all Global Airlines Transatlantic flights” starting in 2024. The historic champagne house is working with the team at the airline to provide a selection of their products on the A380. From the release, the team will be trained to serve them properly along with canapés.
Flight schedules are not published (mostly based on not having gates). It appears that Hi Fly Malta will be doing the flying, but there aren’t many details around that either. When digging further on the Global Airlines site, it looks like the airline would like to fly to the Maldives, between Paris and New York for Fashion Week, to Australia for the 2025 Ashes Series, to Walt Disney World between January and March 2025, from London to the Caribbean in February, and more.
Anthony’s Take: I’m interested in matching my status to see what I’d get on Global Airlines. I’m also interested in seeing a flight schedule, fares, and details around actual travel. We’ll see when this goes live.
