After our night at Hotel Relais La Sommità (review here), we moved to the fourth hotel on our Puglia trip: Canne Bianche. The hotel is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) and bookable through World of Hyatt since it’s also a Mr and Mrs Smith property. The hotel is located on the coast in Torre Canne and provided a great spot for exploring the area during our two-night stay.
Anthony’s Take: Canne Bianche is a gorgeous hotel with lush grounds, a lovely pool, and comfortable accommodations. The air conditioning and fan made the room nice and cold. Our dinner and daily breakfast was delicious with lots to choose from and high quality ingredients throughout.
Booking
I booked the stay using World of Hyatt points. The cash rate was over $600 per night. While not the best redemption, I was happy with this option. My cost was 49,250 points per night and other nights were substantially more. As part of our booking, we were provided complimentary breakfast. This is not a benefit of the Mr and Mrs Smith partnership and was a nice surprise.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
We had our rental car and drove from the Hotel Relais La Sommità to the hotel. The 11-mile ride took around 18 minutes.
The hotel is located behind a gate and the lush grounds are all tucked away inside.
The long driveway leads to the hotel with plenty of free parking on the sides.
Location
The hotel is the perfect location if you want to get away and enjoy the resort. With a car, there is a lot to do in the area. If you do not have a rental car, there is a small convenience store across the street and a few restaurants within walking distance.
Check-in
Check-in was quick and there was no explanation about the property. An agent escorted us to our room and showed us some of its features. I always hate these escorts as I can figure out how to turn on a light switch. We were not told that breakfast was included from booking through Hyatt/Mr and Mrs Smith. This was a nice surprise. I asked about an upgrade and was told the hotel was completely booked. My World of Hyatt redemption was for a Classic Room and that is what we received.
As mentioned, the hotel is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH).
The lobby has tons of seating yet it feels comfortable and a bit cozy.
There are many seating configurations with lots of books and random bowls of nuts scattered throughout the space.
More seating on the other side of the lobby.
As mentioned, there were so many walnuts.
A bar is located close to the elevators. We never saw anyone there during our stay, but drinks were prepared for dinner here.
I liked this floral arrangement near the elevator. The hotel’s boutique is located across the hall.
The elevator was just a few steps away from reception.
Another couch in the hallway
Our room was on the second floor and most of the time we took the stairs.
The hallways were spotlessly clean and had a calming sense to them.
Classic Room (207)
The hotel has 50 guest rooms and suites.
The room opens with the bathroom to the left. It held a toilet, bidet, vanity with a single sink, and shower/tub combo.
The toilet and bidet were adequately spaced.
The vanity offered enough counter space.
A bar of Rituals soap was next to the sink.
Lotion was mounted to the wall nearby.
I’m not a fan of tubs, but the water pressure and temperature were both fine.
Rituals shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the shower wall.
A closet was across from the bathroom. It held bathrobes and some hangers.
A small table was against the wall as soon as you entered the bedroom with an armchair nearby.
A fan and envelope to tip housekeeping was found here.
The king-sized bed was comfortable and flanked by two nightstands.
A TV was mounted on the wall opposite the bed. There was a cabinet below that held the minibar, coffee setup, and safe.
The fridge was filled with drinks and snacks for sale.
A safe was located above it.
Coffee cups, glasses, and a tea kettle were on the other side.
A Nespresso machine, coffee pods, and condiments were on top.
There were also some snacks for sale.
A small desk was to the side closest to the balcony.
Postcards were on the desk.
There was also a box filled with other amenities.
The balcony was spacious and had two chairs.
We had a partial ocean view.
Breakfast
A breakfast buffet is served in the hotel’s restaurant. It offered a good selection and everything I tasted was excellent.
There is a station in the back to order eggs.
Lots of fresh fruit.
More fresh fruit.
Breads and a toaster
A pancake machine
Pastries and doughnuts
Croissants
Mushrooms, sausage, and bacon
Meats and cheeses
More cheese and smoked salmon
Veggies
More pastries
Even more cakes and baked goods
Champagne, juice, and water
The buffet was nicely displayed and very pleasant each morning. If your room rate does not include it, the cost is €25 per person.
The scale and flowers fit the space.
There were lots of tables inside as well as more outdoors.
Dinner
We had dinner at the hotel one night and enjoyed dining outdoors near the pool. We did not have any, but the hotel offers a nice selection of fresh seafood.
We started with a glass of rosé and an Aperol Spritz.
Bread was brought to the table shortly after.
For our first course, I had a pasta dish with a meat ragout.
My husband had stuffed zucchini flowers.
As an entree, I had steak with mushrooms. It was delicious.
My husband had pasta with octopus, which he also enjoyed.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel’s pool is its centerpiece with lush gardens on one side and the ocean on the other. There is not a true beach here, but only a small strip of sand. The blue door above granted access to the ocean. The hotel offers a pool, spa, ATM, boutique, and two restaurants.
The ocean was pretty rough and the beach is not maintained by the hotel. I guess you can swim, but we never saw anyone doing so.
The pool is huge and gorgeous.
My husband loved swimming here and I was content in one of the many loungers.
We had Cafe Crema by the pool. It was delicious.
More lounge chairs
There are even couches around the pool.
The sunset views were gorgeous.
The grounds are serene and we loved just strolling around.
There are flowers everywhere.
There are also plenty of tables.
The garden leading up to the hotel was beautiful.
This is a second gate to the beach (I’m being generous calling it that as the water almost reached the gate).
The hotel has a second restaurant called Giùammare that is open for lunch. We did not get to try it, but I loved the design.
This pathway was on the right side of the resort.
The spa is found on the lower level. We did not use it during our visit.
An ATM was nearby.
Overall Impression: Canne Bianche is a gorgeous property with friendly and helpful staff. We loved the grounds, pool, food, and our stay, overall. This is a great spot to base yourself when exploring Puglia.
