Frontier Airlines announced today that it will move its operations to the upcoming Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). It is the 13th carrier to sign on and joins most Star Alliance airlines, Aer Lingus, Condor, Cathay Pacific, SAS, JetBlue, and other international carriers to inhabit the new space when it opens in 2026.

JFK Terminal 6

Terminal 6 is a key element of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with two new terminals, two expanded and modernized terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a simplified roadway. Frontier currently operates out of Terminal 7 and launched its first-ever flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in June 2024. Since then, the low-cost carrier has been adding routes. It currently operates six daily flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Tampa International Airport (TPA) (plus, San Juan as mentioned above). This spring, up to four additional daily flights will be added. These include three American Airlines’ hubs: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Miami International Airport (MIA).

The new Terminal 6 will offer a digital-first, boutique guest experience that provides less than five-minute average walks from the TSA security checkpoint to all of the terminal’s gates,100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired shopping, dining, lounges, and amenities. The project is being managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners.

Matthew Sattler, Director of Airport Planning and Facilities at Frontier Airlines, said:

Frontier Airlines is excited to continue expanding our operations at JFK and we look forward to transitioning to the new, state-of-the-art Terminal 6 next year. There is no doubt our customers are going to enjoy the beautiful facilities, modern technology and abundant amenities that T6 will offer.”

Anthony’s Take: I’m excited to check out the new Terminal 6 and the rest of the renovations at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when they open next year. I won’t be heading there anytime soon though as the construction and resulting traffic is horrendous. My last trip there had me feeling that I could walk faster than the Uber.
