Delta Air Lines is setting its sights on the Caribbean with 10 new routes being added to its map (including several from non-hub airports). The Atlanta-based carrier will also add two new destinations: Saint Vincent’s Argyle International Airport (SVD) and Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND).
Delta will become the only US carrier to offer nonstop service to Saint Vincent’s Argyle International Airport (SVD) and Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Both flights will run 1x daily between December 20th and April 6th. They will be flown with Boeing 737-800 aircraft equipped with 16 First Class, 36 Delta Comfort+ and 108 Main Cabin seats. These are just two of 52 nonstop destinations across the Caribbean and Latin America from its global hub in Atlanta.
Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta, said:
With two brand-new destinations in the Eastern Caribbean, Delta is expanding its offering in the region, with even more seats to Latin America and the Caribbean this winter. Customers across the U.S. will also benefit from more flights to top destinations from hubs in the Midwest and Northeast, as well as new direct service from key cities like Austin, Nashville and Raleigh-Durham.”
Other new, warm-weather routes include:
- Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to/from Cancún International Airport (CUN) (1x daily; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
- Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to/from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) (1x daily; starts on December 20th and runs until January 5th)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from St. Thomas’ Cyril E. King Airport (STT) (1x daily; starts on December 20th and runs until January 5th)
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
- Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to/from Cancún International Airport (CUN) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
- Kansas City International Airport (MCI) to/from Cancún International Airport (CUN) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
- Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to/from Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
- Nashville International Airport (BNA) to/from Cancún International Airport (CUN) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to/from San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on December 20th and runs until April 12th)
Additionally, Delta is expanding the frequencies on 15 other routes to the Caribbean and Latin America. It’s quite clear (especially in the case of flights from Austin) that Delta is looking to take some of American’s dominance away in a region where it has long reigned supreme.
Anthony’s Take: I love the expansion here and to see flights out of non-hubs. Granted, they are to Cancún (which is a bit meh) in my opinion, but hugely popular with many.
