Breeze Airways is a newish low-cost airline that offers point-to-point flights to underserved markets across the United States using a fleet of modern Airbus A220 aircraft. I flew Breeze Airways to Las Vegas and had a pleasant experience, overall (you can read the full review here).

The airline added a lot of routes over the past year and now it looks like many of them will be suspended after the summer. The most notable of these cuts is its New York to Los Angeles service. Breeze was flying from Westchester County Airport (HPN) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This is not the first route from New York to get the ax as Breeze cancelled its flights to Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) previously (SFO was removed before it even launched). Westchester County Airport (HPN) to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is also being cancelled.

The other 24 routes being suspended include:

  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD)
  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to Richmond International Airport (RIC)
  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to John Wayne Airport (SNA)
  • Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) to Norfolk International Airport (ORF)

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Norfolk International Airport (ORF)

Anthony’s Take: We’ll see if these routes resume in 2024 or if the cuts hold. There are several recent signs that travel demand might be softening, but only time will tell. Breeze Airways offers a good product, service, and serves markets that otherwise lack non-stop flights.

Anthony, please be correct in your final comment. There is a huge difference between a direct flight and a nonstop flight. If you’re in the travel business, that is lesson #1.

Thanks for the comment. I know that nonstop means no stops and direct will have stops. I was actually thinking about both. When I flew from Tampa to Las Vegas, it was a direct flight since we stopped in Huntsville. The flights I listed are direct, but they’ll also impact non-stop options as you’ll be hard-pressed to find many non-stop options from smaller airports. They’re mostly sold as having a connection. I found the way that Breeze did it’s BreezeThru where we had a quick stop, but remained onboard. I changed the article to say non-stop to avoid confusion.
