Avelo Airlines is a low-cost carrier that launched 28 months ago and has been quickly growing. It currently reaches 45 destinations across 23 states and Puerto Rico. The airline operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft and serves destinations across the United States. Avelo competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines.
The carrier announced today that it is opening its sixth airport base at Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). Avelo will launch three new routes this week, double the frequency of another tomorrow, and add two more routes in the near future. New and expanded service includes flights between Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and:
- Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) (Sundays and Thursdays; starts September 7th)
- Sonoma County Airport (STS) (Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays; frequency doubles September 8th)
- Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) (Mondays and Fridays; starts September 8th)
- California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport (ACV) (Mondays and Fridays; starts September 8th)
- Dubuque Regional Airport (DBQ) (Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts September 13th)
- Salem Municipal Airport (SLE) (Sundays and Thursdays; starts October 5th)
All of these flights will be flown on a 147-seat Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737-700.
Las Vegas joins Avelo’s five other bases at Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), Orlando International Airport (MCO), Wilmington Airport (ILG), Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), and Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN).
Avelo Airlines Founder, Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy, said:
As they say, What Happens in Vegas, Can Only Happen in Vegas, and that makes Las Vegas a winning bet for our sixth base. We are excited to start the exclusive nonstop access to Vegas that Avelo’s new base will offer our Customers from these six communities, with more to come in the future. Vegas has something for everyone and Avelo’s affordability, convenience and reliability will make getting to this popular destination easier than ever. The new flights, destinations and jobs our new base enables hits the jackpot for Las Vegas, Avelo and, most importantly, our Customers.”
The new base is a homecoming of sorts for Levy, who cofounded and served as longtime president of Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air.
Anthony’s Take: I have yet to try Avelo, but I’m putting them on my list for 2024. Providing nonstop service from these smaller, underserved airports is a true benefit to local residents looking for some fun in Sin City.
