Avelo Airlines is a low-cost carrier that launched in 2021. The airline operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft and serves destinations across the United States. Avelo competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines. The carrier announced four new routes yesterday from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).

The new flights include service to:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (4x weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays; starts May 2nd)
  • Charlotte/Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) (2x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; starts on May 2nd)
  • Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) (2x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; starts on May 9th)
  • Destin / Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) (2x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; starts with a special inaugural flight on May 17th)

All of these flights will be operated with Boeing 737-700 aircraft. With these new additions, there are now 21 nonstop destinations including eight cities in Florida served from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:

We are excited to offer Southern Connecticut residents even more travel options with the addition of Atlanta, Charlotte, Knoxville, and Destin. Whether visiting friends and family or enjoying a leisurely vacation, Avelo offers time and money-saving convenience for Connecticut travelers. With 21 nonstop destinations, including eight Florida cities, flying from Tweed is easier and more affordable than ever.”

Anthony’s Take: I still have not flown Avelo, but I’m putting them on my list for this year. I might take a day trip to Delaware for the novelty of flying into the state and to try out the carrier.

The one that throws me is Knoxville. Should be interesting in any case.
