WestJet and Icelandair have signed a new reciprocal codeshare agreement at the 2026 International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting. This creates more streamlined travel opportunities between Canada, Iceland, and Europe with a single-ticket booking experience.
The agreement, which remains subject to regulatory approval, will allow passengers to book itineraries across both airlines’ networks with through-checked baggage and coordinated connections. For WestJet customers, the partnership opens access to more than 10 European destinations via Icelandair’s hub at Keflavík International Airport (KEF). Travelers will be able to connect seamlessly through Iceland to destinations across Northern and Western Europe using a single reservation.
The codeshare announcement comes as WestJet continues to grow its Iceland network. Later this month, the airline will launch new nonstop service to Keflavík International Airport (KEF) from both Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG). In addition, WestJet has resumed seasonal summer service between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Keflavík International Airport (KEF) for the 2026 travel season following strong customer demand. These routes will serve as key gateways into Icelandair’s extensive European network and give Canadian travelers easier access to destinations beyond Reykjavík.

The partnership also works in the opposite direction. Passengers traveling on Icelandair from Iceland and Europe will gain improved access to destinations across Canada through WestJet’s domestic network. With a single connection, travelers can reach numerous Canadian cities beyond WestJet’s major gateways. The agreement is expected to make Canada a more attractive destination for European and Icelandic travelers while strengthening tourism and business links between the regions.
John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said:
Strengthening our longstanding partnership with Icelandair marks an important step in expanding choice and connectivity to Canadians. By leveraging Icelandair’s extensive network through Reykjavik, we’re opening more seamless access to Europe while deepening a partnership that delivers greater value and convenience for travelers. We are proud to establish deeper ties with Icelandair and look forward to connecting our complementary networks in a convenient way for our shared guests.”
Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair President and CEO, added:
We are pleased to develop our partnership with WestJet as our first Canadian codeshare partner airline to further expand our global network and offer our customers even greater choice and connectivity. This collaboration simplifies travel between Canada, Iceland and mainland Europe, and enables more seamless journeys across our combined networks.”
Anthony’s Take: For both airlines, the partnership represents a strategic move to strengthen their transatlantic offerings without launching additional long-haul routes. Once implemented, the new codeshare will provide travelers on both sides of the Atlantic with greater flexibility, simplified booking, and smoother connections, further enhancing connectivity between Canada, Iceland, and Europe.
