American Airlines is enhancing its premium inflight experience with the introduction of new California wines across select cabins. It’s part of a broader effort to elevate its onboard dining.

Starting May 13th, passengers traveling in Flagship® First and Flagship® Business cabins will see updated wine offerings tailored to their routes:

International Flagship® First and Flagship® Business

  • Truchard Vineyards Chardonnay
  • Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon

Transcontinental Flagship® First and Flagship® Business

  • Migration Chardonnay
  • Justin Cabernet Sauvignon

The airline says these selections were chosen based on customer feedback, industry recognition, and their ability to complement chef-curated onboard menus. These all retail for between $25 and $45, which is not half bad compared to a lot of what is served in the sky.

The new wine rollout is part of a wider refresh of American’s inflight wine program. It’s aimed at creating a more refined and cohesive dining experience for premium travelers. Pairing high-quality wines with upgraded meal offerings is a key component of the airline’s strategy to compete in the premium travel space.

American’s wine program has received industry recognition, including Global Traveler’s award for Best North American Wines on the Wing (most recently in 2024). The airline continues to build on that reputation with updated selections and ongoing enhancements.

The introduction of these California wines marks just the first phase of a broader overhaul. Additional updates to the wine program are expected later this summer, alongside other premium cabin improvements, including special centennial-themed menus.

Anthony’s Take: American Airlines is doubling down on the premium experience with upgraded wine offerings that reflect both customer preferences and culinary trends. With more enhancements on the way, the airline is continuing to refine its onboard product for high-value travelers in an attempt to be viewed as premium once again.

American served box wine in the Premium economy flight from LAX to BCN…. I was shocked and wine tasted awful!
