A trade show found me in Atlantic City for a few days this week. In the past I had stayed at the Borgata, Caesar’s Atlantic City Hotel & Casino, Harrah’s Resort & Casino, and the Revel (which is now Ocean Casino Resort) as well as the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel. I had not been back since 2018 and while some things are the same, the city has definitely seen better days. The homeless population has increased dramatically and many businesses have shuttered. That said, the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel was a convenient base (especially since the event was in the convention center and I did not have to step outside to get there.
Anthony’s Take: The Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel served my needs for a short, two-night stay. I was able to easily get to the convention center without venturing into the cold and rain. The room was adequate and had been refurbished since I was last here. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and seemed happy to be there.
Booking
The room was booked for me on a convention rate of $125 per night. I was able to add the reservation to my Marriott Bonvoy® account and my Titanium status was recognized. All of the attendees from my company were booked into King, Club Level Guest Rooms.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I flew into Atlantic City International Airport and landed around 10:00 PM. It was a short 20-minute ride to the hotel and an Uber Comfort cost $38. I took an Uber Comfort back to the airport. It took the same time and cost $41.
Location
As mentioned the hotel is conveniently attached to the Atlantic City Convention Center. It’s a few-minute walk to Starbucks and many stores and about 10 minutes to the boardwalk.
Check-in
When I arrived, there was no line. I was quickly provided with room keys and handed vouchers for breakfast (I did not get the chance to use these as I was in meetings early each morning). The desk agent also told me that the lounge was open on the 16th floor for snacks and drinks 24 hours a day. I asked about an upgrade and was told that they were fully booked. I had been booked into a King, Club Level Guest Room by my company and that is what I received. I also inquired about late checkout and was told they could grant me a 2:00 PM checkout. Convention center and resort hotels do not have to provide this benefit, and 2:00 PM worked out for me.
King, Club Level Guest Room (1505)
There are 502 rooms and suites at the hotel. I was on the 15th floor (of 16 floors total).
The last time I stayed at the Sheraton was around 2010. The hotel rooms were rather rundown at that point. I’m happy to report that the rooms and hallways have been refreshed and mine was in good condition. Upon entering, there is a closet to the right and a bathroom to the left.
The closet had an iron, ironing board, robe, and safe.
Across was the bathroom. It wasn’t spacious, but it provided enough space not to feel crammed in either.
The water pressure was decent in the shower/tub combo.
The bathroom also had a single sink vanity and a toilet (as well as lots of towels).
Toiletries were a mix of brands, and I was provided with replacements that did not match these on the second day. This could be blamed on supply chain issues but felt like they were just providing whatever they could get.
There was also a blowdryer on the sink.
The bedroom had lots of outlets including several by the bed (with USB ports on the side).
The king-sized bed was comfortable.
Next to the bed was a chair as well as an ice bucket and some water.
There was a desk and another chair in the corner.
Across from the bed was a dresser with a TV on top.
Next to the dresser was a refrigerator and a microwave.
Another small table was next to the closet. It had a coffeemaker and everything needed for coffee or tea.
Public Areas & Amenities
The lobby has a small store that sells coffee as well as sundries and souvenirs. You’ll find lots of Miss America memorabilia and pictures throughout the building. The stairwell near the elevators was flanked with several tiaras and dresses.
A portrait of Vanessa Williams hangs on the way to the convention center. She was the first African-American woman to receive the Miss America title and was crowned in 1984.
The elevators in the lobby are in need of some updating (they creaked and struggled a bit as I rode them).
They open on the 16th floor directly to the lounge (a key card is required for floors 15 and 16).
It did not have much in the way of offerings, but did have lots of seating.
There were couches and tables (plus a TV). If I were there longer, I would have used it as a space to work.
There was no one there either time I visited.
There were some granola bars and snack mixes for food.
Coffee was the only beverage choice. Nothing else was provided.
There was also a computer and printer available for guest use.
The hotel has a fitness center, but I did not get the chance to use it. The website shows a spa, but this is misleading. If you click it, you’re directed to the Borgata, which is several miles away.
Overall Impression: The Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel serves its purpose. It provides a convenient and clean accommodation attached to the space where many conventions and shows take place. While I did not get to use the facilities or have breakfast, I was pleased with the friendliness of the staff and overall experience.
