Porter Airlines has officially launched operations from Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU). The new terminal at Montréal Metropolitan Airport, formerly known as Montréal Saint-Hubert Airport (YHU) officially opened today, June 15th. The airport is being marketed as MET Airport and is positioned as a convenient alternative to Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) due to its close proximity to downtown Montreal. While it is referred to as MET Airport, its official International Air Transport Association (IATA) code remains YHU, which is consistent with Canada’s airport coding system.
Porter is the launch carrier at the new terminal and is introducing service to 11 domestic destinations within its first week of operations. This makes it the airport’s largest airline partner at launch. The carrier inaugurated four routes today. These connect Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU) with Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) (20x weekly), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) (27x weekly), Vancouver International Airport (YVR) (14x weekly), and St. John’s International Airport (YYT) (7x weekly).
Over the following week, Porter will expand service to a total of 11 destinations across Canada, including:
- Edmonton International Airport (YEG) (7x weekly; starts on June 16th)
- Calgary International Airport (YYC) (7x weekly; starts on June 17th)
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) (14x weekly; starts on June 17th)
- Charlottetown Airport (YYG) (7x weekly; starts on June 18th and runs seasonally)
- Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) (7x weekly; starts on June 18th and runs seasonally)
- Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) (7x weekly; starts on June 19th and runs seasonally)
- John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) (14x weekly; starts on June 22nd)
Passenger traffic at Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU) is expected to reach one million travelers during its first year of operation with long-term capacity projected to grow to four million passengers annually.

The launch also represents a significant expansion for Porter in the Montreal market. Combined with its existing operations at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), the airline expects to nearly double its Greater Montreal capacity this summer by adding more than 1,000 flights.
Further regional connectivity will be supported through Porter’s partnership with Pascan Aviation, providing travelers with additional links throughout Quebec, Atlantic Canada, and Porter’s broader North American network. Flights from Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU) will be operated using Porter’s fleet of De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops and Embraer E195-E2 jets. Both aircraft feature two-by-two seating configurations with no middle seats, while the E195-E2 fleet also offers complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, premium snacks, and beer and wine served in glassware.
Michael Deluce, CEO of Porter Airlines, said:
Starting new routes is something that we often do, but launching 11 at once from a new airport to transform a city’s connectivity is exceptional. This is truly meaningful for Montreal’s people, economy and tourism, and we’re proud to be a part of it. Demand is already exceeding our expectations, and as soon as travelers discover Porter’s unique offering, combined with MET’s comfort and convenience, they will have a new appreciation for air travel.”
Anthony’s Take: The opening of service at Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU) gives travelers another option for domestic travel while strengthening connectivity for one of Canada’s largest metropolitan areas.
