EL AL will return to South America with the launch of a new 2x weekly nonstop route between Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) and Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) to reestablish a long-absent connection between the two regions.

The airline plans to operate two weekly flights using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which offer three classes of service: Economy, Premium Economy, and Business. The flight time is expected to be approximately 16.5 hours from Israel to Argentina and about 15.5 hours on the return. Ticket sales are scheduled to open in May with the inaugural flights planned for November.

The Buenos Aires service will become EL AL’s longest nonstop route and extend the carrier’s long-haul network while signaling a strategic expansion into South America. Through a codeshare agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas and additional partnerships, passengers will gain access to onward connections across the South American continent. Travelers will also be able to connect to other regional destinations through various European gateways to expand the reach of the new service.

The launch represents a major development in strengthening ties between Israel and South America (particularly with Argentina’s Jewish community, which is the fifth largest globally and the largest without a direct air link to Israel). The announcement was made during a joint press conference attended by Argentine President Javier Milei and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Alongside the route announcement, both countries signed bilateral cooperation agreements that included an aviation deal aimed at deepening connectivity.

Anthony’s Take: The new route is part of broader efforts to enhance relations between Israel and Argentina with increased collaboration expected in the areas of economic development, technology, security, and tourism.
