There are some operations like those at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) or Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), where snow is an inconvenience but nothing something to freak out over. Others are not as well equipped for winter weather (and especially some of the historic amounts that fell this weekend). Those airports are working hard to return to normalcy and I found the photos they’re posting of the snow removal pretty interesting.

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL)

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) saw extreme cold and winter weather yesterday and this morning. Travelers are advised to check with the airlines they’re flying around schedules.

Charleston International Airport (CHS)

Charleston International Airport (CHS) saw some cancellations, but the airport is open and operational.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)

The Charlotte metro area saw eye-popping totals in a region that has seen very little snow in recent years. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) recorded 11 inches of snow, which is an extraordinary amount that ranks among the city’s most significant snowfalls. The total ties for the fourth-largest (single-day) snowfall in Charlotte’s recorded history. It equals a storm that hit more than 145 years ago in December 1880.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) was spared the worst of Yesterday’s winter storm, but airlines have canceled dozens of flights today as clean up is underway. Of the 47 flights scheduled to leave before 8:30 AM this morning, 35 were canceled.

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV)

The majority of flights departing the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) this morning have been cancelled today through around 10:30 AM. Flight issues this morning are paired with record-low temperatures.

Anthony’s Take: This winer has been brutal. It’s freezing throughout the East Coast and Midwest. I’m in the panhandle this weekend and Florida is so cold. I hope warmer weather is coming soon.
