Earlier this week, I wrote about the controversial Transportation Security Administration (TSA) video that is playing at security checkpoints across the country. Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem appears in the video and blames Democrats for the funding impasse that has left airport staff unpaid and passengers facing mounting delays. A host of airports have rejected the video due to its partisan politics. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) wanted to join the list in not airing the video, but the airport does not control the screens in the “TSA leased” section of the airport.
The airport took to X yesterday to show the signs it has placed near the monitors that are playing the video denouncing the message. The airports where the video has been pulled own the screens in the checkpoints and were able to make the call. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Detroit and the Wayne County Airport Authority is doing what it can to distance itself.
Here is the video in question:
The video’s transcript reads:
Hi, I’m Christine Nome, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security. It is TSA’s top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience as possible while we keep you safe.
However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government. And because of this, many of our operations are impacted and most of our TSA employees are working without pay.
We will continue to do all that we can to avoid delays that will impact your travel. And our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government.”
Anthony’s Take: Good for the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). This video has no place in our airports and should be shut down. These screens are meant to provide information for travelers and not political commentary.
