American Express announced today that it plans to expand its Centurion® Lounge footprint with a brand-new location at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). This will be its first lounge in the Netherlands and the first by any global credit card issuer at Europe’s fourth busiest airport.

The lounge is scheduled to open in 2026 between Concourses E and F. It will bring American Express’ signature mix of amenities and local culture to one of Europe’s busiest travel hubs. The space will be small at only 6,000 square feet, but the Amsterdam Centurion® Lounge will deliver in a Dutch-inspired design that reflects the location with a palette of blues, greens, and earth tones to evoke Amsterdam’s iconic canals and canal houses. Floor-to-ceiling windows will provide tons of natural light.

A locally sourced food and beverage menu celebrates Dutch cuisine. It’s complemented by a signature coffee bar that honors the Netherlands’ deep-rooted coffee culture. Locals call taking the time to connect and unwind together “gezellig.” I just hope the dog picture and chair that seem to be in every lounge make it here. As with all Centurion® Lounges, the Amsterdam location will include the features that eligible American Express Cardmembers have come to expect, including:

  • Premium dining and bar options with locally inspired menus and beverages
  • Comfortable seating zones for work or relaxation
  • Private workstations and high-speed Wi-Fi
  • Plentiful power outlets and USB ports

The lounge is designed to be a calming retreat for travelers that blends functionality with the charm of local culture.

The new Amsterdam lounge joins the American Express Global Lounge Collection®, which currently offers access to over 1,550 lounges worldwide. This includes 29 Centurion Lounges and American Express is the credit card issuer with the most airport lounge options globally.

In addition to Amsterdam, American Express has announced upcoming lounge openings in:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) (2027)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (2026)
  • Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) (2025)
  • Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) (2025)

These expansions reflect American Express’s continued investment in supporting Cardmembers during travel and providing a premium space for them to work and relax.

Audrey Hendley, President at American Express Travel, said:

With a large number of American Express Card Members traveling through Schiphol each year, the new Centurion Lounge will be an important addition to our growing global Centurion Lounge Network. We know travelers are looking for authentic, local experiences when they travel, and the new Centurion Lounge will deliver a premium experience and amenities with a taste of Dutch history and culture.”

Dave Stroop, Manager of Terminal Development at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, added:

We are proud to welcome American Express as the first global credit card company that will open a proprietary lounge at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with an iconic Centurion Lounge. We’ve worked hard with the team at American Express to reach this milestone and are thrilled to bring to life what promises to be valuable addition to our airport offerings. With its focus on comfort, premium amenities, and exceptional service, we’re confident the Centurion Lounge will elevate the travel experience for eligible Card Members and attract both returning and new airport travelers alike.”

Anthony’s Take: I love that American Express has continued to expand its lounge network. While they can often be crowded and the food is not what it once was, I still value having access to these lounges.
