American Airlines has been talking about the opening of its upcoming Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges for quite some time. In January, I wrote about them coming this summer. Last month, I covered more details and wrote a separate post about the exciting dining options. Now, the time has come for these lounges to open and it looks like both lounges will welcome their first guests tomorrow, May 22nd.

PHL Admirals Club

American Airlines currently operates three Admirals Clubs at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The latest Admirals Club® will be located in Terminal A-West between Gates A15 and A16. This is part of American’s plan to restore and increase service at its northeast hub. Robert Isom, American’s CEO, commented a bit ago that the airline is “getting back to where it should be” in Philadelphia after the pandemic.

American flew more than 19 million customers through Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) last year and it offers more than 355+ peak-day departures to 120+ destinations. This summer, American has five new routes planned from Philadelphia. These include Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP).

The new 25,000-square-foot space will be split between the Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges. Eligible AAdvantage® members, qualifying oneworld® members, and passengers traveling in premium cabins on qualifying same-day flights can access the Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges. The new lounges replace the Admirals Club® lounge in the A-East Terminal.

Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said:

We are excited to welcome our customers into American’s newest preflight experience with the opening of our brand-new Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges in the A-West terminal. With more than 19 million travelers passing through Philadelphia last year, our passionate team worked zealously to create a calm, comfortable sanctuary away from the terminal hustle where customers can relax, recharge and feel taken care of before their journey takes off.”

PHL Lounge Map

The Flagship® lounge measures nearly 12,500 square feet and offers an elevated experience for customers traveling in Business on qualifying international, transcontinental, and select domestic flights. Passengers are welcomed with complimentary Champagne and can enjoy panoramic runway views, six spa-style shower rooms, and lots of seating options. James Beard Award Semifinalist®, Chef Randy Rucker has designed a menu and guests can enjoy a unique-to-Philadelphia a la carte dining experience with dishes ordered via QR code.

The next-door Admirals Club® lounge comes in around 11,000 square feet and offers self-serve offerings, specialty Don Francisco coffee, a full-service bar, and a dedicated kids’ area. The design follows American’s newest Admirals Club® lounge design that is also found at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Denver International Airport (DEN), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Anthony’s Take: American is trying to reposition itself as a premium airline. Moves like opening these lounges definitely help with that journey. Both look gorgeous and will be welcomed by travelers this summer.
