If you’re looking to travel this summer, get ready for some sticker shock. With tariffs, inflation, and travel companies not quite sure how to price flights, hotels, tours, and more, travelers could be facing one of the priciest summer travel seasons ever. The average cost of a summer trip in 2025 is expected to reach $10,346, which a 38% increase over 2024.

The craziest part? This is just getting started. The upward trend is likely to continue and price out many that are looking for that trip abroad. Travel insurance comparison company, Squaremouth, took a look at how costs are rising based on survey data from thousands of travel insurance policies purchased for trips this summer.

Surprisingly, Bermuda tops the list of affordable travel options with an average trip cost of $3,995. The other top 10 most affordable destinations are:

  • Vietnam ($4,163)
  • Mexico ($4,228)
  • The Bahamas ($4,404)
  • Aruba ($4,680)
  • Jamaica ($4,922)
  • The Dominican Republic ($5,188)
  • Puerto Rico ($5,281)
  • Poland ($5,505)
  • Turks & Caicos ($5,999)

Travelers are also looking for coverage over uncertainty around geopolitical issues as well as emergency medical coverage while traveling overseas. I can say that I purchase medical coverage for every trip out of the country that I take. Expenses are often not covered by my medical insurance and could become extremely expensive if a serious injury or illness strikes.

Anthony’s Take: It’s no surprise that trips this summer are expensive and getting more so every day. Economic uncertainty, politics, and more will make it an interesting time to hit the road.
