Tampa International Airport (TPA) unveiled its newest security checkpoint today at Terminal E. This is the terminal that Delta Air Lines, Frontier, and Air Canada fly from. The 19,542-square-foot security checkpoint filled with new screening equipment comes just in time for spring break.
The former security checkpoint area was constructed in 2002, before the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was formed and current procedures were implemented. The expansion sees the checkpoint expand from six to seven lanes. Terminal A (where JetBlue, Spirit, and United fly from) will undergo a similar expansion in the next few weeks.
Tampa International Airport CEO, Joe Lopano, said:
With our busy Spring Break travel period kicking off this month, this is a great time to be able to celebrate the opening of this checkpoint. The fast-paced growth at TPA in recent years led us to right-size the space to modernize and enhance traveler safety and security, thanks to the dedication of all the partners involved in this project.”
Anthony’s Take: I’m looking forward to these upgrades at one of my home airports. Tampa International Airport (TPA) is one of my favorites in the world and it just keeps getting better with infrastructure investments and new routes.
