Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) brought in eight new airlines last year and took the prize for adding more than any other large airport in North America. These new additions (plus some new routes from existing carriers) made it so that the airport now provides nonstop access to more than 180 destinations worldwide.

New Airlines

  • Alaska Airlines: Now offers daily flights to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). These launched in May 2024.
  • BermudAir: 3x weekly flights to/from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) began in May 2024.
  • Hainan Airlines: Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) relaunched 1x weekly after a five-year pause in November 2024.
  • ITA Airways: May 2024 saw the beginning of daily seasonal flights to Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO).
  • Qatar Airways: December 2024 saw the start of 3x weekly flights to/from Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH).
  • Royal Air Maroc: Last month, Royal Air Maroc added 3x weekly flights to/from  Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport (CMN).
  • Sun Country: 2x weekly service to/from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) launched in April 2024.
  • SWISS: Flights to Zurich Airport (ZRH) were added seasonally (5x weekly) in May 2024.

Deborah Flint, President and CEO of Toronto Pearson, said:

Pearson is now home to 54 airlines flying to more than 180 destinations worldwide. Continuing to grow the range of destinations available from Toronto with a wide selection of carriers for travelers to choose from, we are making strides in economic generation and increased choice and connectivity of our country. 2024 has undoubtedly been a record year for Pearson.”

Last year, Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) added 36 new routes and nine new destinations. Since 2022, the airport has provided more than eight million international seats and more global destinations than any other airport in North America.

Anthony’s Take: I have flown through Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) several times when I wanted to snag cheaper tickets to Europe. Immigration takes time, but there can be big savings if you find the right deal and with the weakness the Canadian dollar has seen the past few years.
