Air France has submitted a proposal to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to open a lounge in Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This is expected to be approved tomorrow with a planned opening date not yet provided (but no time soon).
The Points Guy first reported that Air France wants to open the 6,129-square-foot lounge. A lease for the lounge have a seven-year term that would start on January 1st. It will cost around $3 million to refurbish the lounge and the entirety of the lease will run an additional $13 million in rent. Air France returned to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in 2022 (after stopping flying there in 2012). This will be the seventh lounge that Air France will operate in the United States. Other locations include:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
The Air France lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is a temporary fix as the airport plans to build an entirely new Terminal B. The airport opened a brand new Terminal A in January 2023. The modern space is gorgeous and packed with eateries, shops, lounges, tons of natural light, and more. Terminal B is home to most of Newark’s international flights (with the exception of United Airlines) and is in need of major changes and it looks like it is about to get a replacement terminal. This will take several years and in the interim Air France passengers will have a new space to enjoy.
Anthony’s Take: I generally enjoy Air France’s lounges and this is a much needed addition in Newark. I have a soft spot for the airport (as it was my home airport for many years).
