Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center

I attended a conference in Denver a few weeks ago and stayed for the night at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. When I was in Denver last September, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Denver (review here) and preferred that property. The Club Lounge at the Hyatt Regency was closed and the lack of an upgrade or other benefits made the stay rather lackluster.

Anthony’s Take: The Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center was fine for the night while attending a conference, but I would not go out of my way to stay here again. The room was nothing special and service was okay with nothing notable. I’m not sure why the Club Lounge is closed as the pandemic has long been over, but nothing is given to replace this benefit other than the standard offering given to Globalists.

Booking

My company booked me a 1 King Bed room on a negotiated conference rate (well below Standard Rates). The hotel is a Category 4 property and room redemptions range from 12,000 to 18,000 per night when redeeming World of Hyatt points for a standard room.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from Denver International Airport (DEN). The approximately 24-mile ride took 35 minutes and cost $68. I returned to the airport the next evening in the same way and at a similar cost.

Location

The hotel is conveniently located near the Colorado Convention Center. It’s also not too far from museums, the Denver Zoo, and other tourist attractions. There are also lots of stores and restaurants nearby.

Check-in

I arrived at the hotel around 8:00 PM and my room was ready. The agent checking me in was young and inexperienced. He told me that no upgrades were available past a higher floor and provided no other information. I requested a late checkout and he had to check with someone. I asked about the Club Lounge and he had to ask someone else. He definitely needed more training. I had my keys moments later and went to my room.

There is lots of seating throughout the expansive lobby. Seats are grouped into smaller arrangements.

The lobby was not too busy and some of the areas were rather cozy.

The ceilings are high and the space has lots of natural light.

The elevators are across the lobby and down a hallway. There was a big space across from the elevators selling Hyatt Vacation Club offerings.

I liked this art piece near the elevator lobby.

The elevator lobby and hallway on my floor were clean and well maintained.

The hallways were a bit dimly lit until you got near the window by the elevators.

1 King Bed High Floor (3722)

There are 1,100 rooms (including 59 suites) at the hotel.

The room opened with a closet near the door. It held a safe, iron and ironing board, and luggage rack.

The bathroom felt a bit dated, but it was spacious. The vanity had a single sink and tons of counter space.

There was a bar of Pharmacopia soap near the sink.

Beekman 1802 toiletries were also found here. I don’t think I’ve seen this brand before.

The toilet was spaced far enough away from the tub.

I am not a fan of shower/tub combos, but the water pressure and temperature were both fine.

The bedroom was a good size and included a king-sized bed and two nightstands. It was fine for the night.

A chair, ottoman, table, and lamp were near the window.

A desk and chair were across the room. A Keurig, coffee pods, cups, and condiments were on the desk.

The TV was mounted above a cabinet across from the bed.

An empty refrigerator was found inside.

There were also glasses, an ice bucket, and bottled water here.

The room offered a nice view of Denver.

Public Areas & Amenities

The hotel has a fitness center, a lobby restaurant and convenience store, an ATM, a spa, a FedEx Office store (pictured above), and an indoor pool.

The ATM is near reception.

The lobby bar/restaurant/mini mart is to the right of check-in.

The Club Lounge remains closed with no apparent intent of it reopening.

The fitness center is an adequate size with a good amount of natural light.

There is plenty of equipment here.

There are plenty of rowers and bikes here.

I like that the hotel has Peloton Bikes.

Towels and earbuds were provided.

Locker rooms offered toilets and showers.

The pool was empty when I popped in (but it was also heavily chlorinated).

The spa was closed during my visit.

Overall Impression:

The Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center gets the job done if you’re staying there for a conference. The Grand Hyatt Denver is nicer (even though it’s a lower category) and I would choose to stay there again next time I needed to be at the convention center. Elite benefits are lacking and the hotel just feels meh, overall.
