Viva Aerobus, is a low-cost, Mexican airline based in Monterrey International Airport (MTY). The carrier has just added five new US destinations, making it the first new route announcement since Mexico returned to the highest FAA safety category (Category 1) this month after two years of being downgraded (more about this here).

All of the routes will be served from Monterrey International Airport (MTY). These include:

  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) (4x weekly; starting in March)
  • Denver International Airport (DEN) (2x weekly; starting in January)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) (3x weekly; starting in July)
  • Oakland International Airport (OAK) (2x weekly; starting in July)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) (3x weekly; starting in May)

All of these routes are on sale now with some good fares to be found.

Anthony’s Take: This is the first Mexican carrier to add routes since Mexico was returned to the highest FAA safety rating. I’m sure we’ll see other announcements from Aeromexico and Volaris in the near term.
