United Airlines made some schedule updates this week and with them chopped three routes from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). All three routes will be served from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) instead.

Currently, United offers flights from both Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (2x daily) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) (4x daily) to Albany International Airport (ALB). The Newark flights will cease on March 29th.

Flights to/from Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) also shift from 2x daily to off the map from Newark on March 29th. Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) will see its frequency to Providence increase from 2x to 3x on March 30th.

Finally, 2x daily service to/from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) ends on March 29th. A new 2x daily route from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) starts on March 30th.

I’ve flown the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) flight many times and if I was still living in Hoboken would be upset. These flights are all operated by regional airlines for United as United Express. GoJet and CommuteAir will shuffle some of the flying they’re doing for United with these route changes.

Anthony’s Take: The route map is constantly shuffling. These routes have long been flown from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and it makes more sense for NY/NJ folks to drive than fly through DC if they’re United loyalists.

I could imagine they lost Newark to Providence market share to Acela. And it sounds like they want to make IAD the connecting hub instead of EWR.

**I am more seriously disturbed that United Airlines actually cut flights from EWR, Newark International round-trip to MCI, Kansas City International Airport!! They’ve lost their minds!! Kansas City has Super Bowl Champs, TWICE already!! They had the Royals World Series Contenders this year, and the Soccer World Championship is coming!! They had the NFL DRAFT PICK last year. AND Let’s not forget the Hallmark EXPERIENCE this year at Crown Center and the Disney EXPERIENCE at Union Station currently going on SIMULTANEOUSLY!!
TRULY, WHAT IS WRONG WITH UNITED AIRLINES??? BOY, HAVE THEY DROPPED THE BALL – ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR INTO NEXT!!! THEIR PR/MARKETING/CUSTOMER RELATIONS/SALES DEPARTMENT(S) HAVE COMPLETELY CUT REVENUE DRASTICALLY IN A CARELESS, INCOMPETENT, AND AMATEURISH WAY!!!
