ITA Airways has been doing lots to align itself with Lufthansa and Star Alliance since it exited SkyTeam in February. I recently wrote about how it moved terminals at both Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Munich International Airport (MUC). Last week, a vote was held around ITA Airways officially joining Star Alliance. Lufthansa made the motion and it was carried with approval moving forward. Star Alliance says that ITA Airways will become the 26th member of the world’s largest airline alliance. In addition to all of this news, Lot Polish Airlines announced today that ITA Airways will expand its cooperation with the Polish airline and begin a codeshare partnership.
LOT Polish Airlines passengers will have access to ten new codeshare connections in Italy including Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI), Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ), Brindisi Airport (BDS), Florence Airport (FLR), Genoa Christopher Columbus Airport (GOA), Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF), Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP), Palermo’s Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO), and Turin Airport (TRN). ITA Airways passengers will be able to book convenient flights from Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Warsaw Chopin Airport and other destinations served by LOT Polish Airlines.
Robert Ludera, LOT’s Registered Representative and Director of the LOT Polish Airlines Network Bureau, said:
Reaching a codeshare agreement with ITA Airways is part of the implementation of our strategy, which includes expanding our offer and improving the quality of our services. Through this cooperation, LOT’s passengers gain access to a wide network of domestic connections in Italy, which will significantly facilitate travel in this beautiful country. We encourage you to discover Italy, now more accessible to travelers from Poland than ever before. We will also be pleased to welcome our partner’s travelers on board LOT, providing them with a convenient transfer offer to a wide range of destinations in our route network.”
Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, added:
We are pleased to sign this codeshare agreement with LOT Polish Airlines. This partnership is an additional significant step in ITA Airways’ growth strategy, enhancing connectivity for our passengers. It creates a privileged and convenient travel route between Italy and Poland, further strengthening the economic and commercial ties between our two countries. Additionally, it enhances LOT passengers’ travel experience, offering them the opportunity to enjoy the excellence of Made in Italy, which ITA Airways proudly represents as an ambassador worldwide.”
Anthony’s Take: ITA Airways is making tons of strides to align with Lufthansa and the rest of the Star Alliance before it fully becomes a member. It’s great to see it more involved than when it was part of SkyTeam.
