Andaz is Hyatt’s fun and funky chain of hotels. I’ve had some great stays at locations in New York, West Hollywood, and Amsterdam. There are 28 hotels across 17 countries, including the newest (and largest location worldwide in Macau).

The Andaz Macau has opened in collaboration with Galaxy Macau™, the city’s luxury shopping, dining, entertainment, and resort complex. It features 700 rooms and suites in an environment that it describes as the “real Macau” with local art, culture, and architecture mixed in. The hotel also has a direct connection to both the Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC) and the 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena.

The hotel’s two towers are located between the well-preserved neighborhoods of Old Taipa and Coloane. Upon entering the hotel, guests are greeted with art that captures the unique juxtaposition of East-West cultures that make up Macau. Art and artifacts showcase Macau’s history with hand-painted Portuguese tile patterns and mannequins dressed in intricately embroidered couture gowns. A signature feature is the “Macau Steps.” This multi-sensory staircase showcases over 100 videos that narrate the history of the city.

Andaz Macau Room

The design of the rooms and suites is inspired by the surrounding area with forest greens and earthy orange hues reflecting the lush green landscapes of the neighborhood. Accommodations range from 375 square feet to 730 square feet. The spaces have local amenities and a minibar stocked with locally sourced snacks including biscuits from Macua Yeng Kee Bakery.

Andaz Kitchen Macau

The hotel has two restaurants and a bar. Andaz Kitchen, is a bustling all-day-dining neighborhood destination with a menu that mixes Chinese, Portuguese, and Western dishes. Andaz Studio has the look and feel of an elegant library. It serves breakfast daily. The Andaz Bar offers creative cocktails and craft beers produced by a local brewery.

The hotel’s other amenities include a heated 62-foot pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and complimentary access to the Grand Resort Deck at Galaxy Macau, known as the world’s leading Skytop oasis.

Anthony’s Take: Macau is a cool city with Vegas-style casinos and a unique Portuguese history. I love Andaz hotels and look forward to checking this one out one day.
