A passenger boarded easyJet flight U2 2127 from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and the aircraft taxied out to the runway. There was just one problem. The passenger did not have a boarding pass for that flight and was allowed on anyway.

U2 2127 Flight Status

The aircraft left the gate and was preparing to takeoff when the error was noticed. Law enforcement met the aircraft upon its return to the gate and escorted the passenger off of the plane. It was then searched (including pulling bags for screening) and all passengers were re-screened before being allowed to board again. The unidentified man in his 20s was arrested and detained by Greater Manchester Police yesterday, October 4th.

The aircraft arrived around four hours late. Airport officials confirmed that the man had gone through security screening and that the boarding error occurred at the gate. This is not being treated as a terrorism-related incident even though the man’s intentions are still being investigated.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police released this statement:

At around 7pm last night (Friday, October 4), we were called to Manchester Airport to reports of a man who had embarked on a flight without the correct documentation. On arrival back to the terminal, officers arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of secreting himself for the purpose of being carried in an aircraft without consent and intentionally or recklessly causing public nuisance. He remains in police custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing.”

Anthony’s Take: It’s pretty amazing that a passenger can still board a plane with the wrong boarding pass or no boarding pass being that they are all scanned. Thankfully, this error was noticed and the passenger was removed before the aircraft took off.
