SAS joined SkyTeam on September 1st. With this change of airline alliance, it’s looking to align with core partners like Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta Air Lines and eventually enter this group’s joint venture. Today, Delta and SAS announced that a codeshare agreement has been signed between the two airlines.
SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) and Delta have signed an agreement that is effective as of September 25th. The codeshare agreement offers reciprocal codeshare flights and frequent flyer benefits including the ability to earn and redeem SkyMiles or SAS EuroBonus points across both carriers.
Delta passengers flying from North America will gain access to 50 destinations in Northern Europe beyond SAS’ hubs at Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Oslo Airport (OSL), and Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN). SAS passengers will gain access to more than 150 destinations in North America through Delta’s hubs in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Alliances, said:
As part of Delta’s mission to connect people around the world, our new partnership with SAS will strengthen our presence in Northern Europe by offering customers improved access to destinations throughout Scandinavia and a better overall flying experience.”
Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, added:
We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Delta through this new codeshare agreement, enhancing travel options between Scandinavia and North America. With our new direct route from Copenhagen to Seattle, we’re strengthening connections to the Pacific Northwest offering more travel options for our passengers. As a proud new member of SkyTeam Alliance, this collaboration offers great opportunities to provide seamless connectivity and benefits across our global network. We are excited about the possibilities and committed to delivering an elevated travel experience for our customers.”
Anthony’s Take: This is the one of several codeshare agreements that SAS will likely strike with its new alliance members before the joint venture is permitted. I’m looking forward to having these options as part of SkyTeam.
