CLEAR® makes airport security even easier at over 40+ locations as you don’t need to take out an ID. Your eyes or fingerprints are scanned, you flash your boarding pass, and you’re on your way. This coupled with TSA PreCheck has saved me countless time when traveling. As a United Global Services member, I received CLEAR® free of charge (this will continue as I will be a 1K® in 2023 and it is also comped for this status level).
Both Delta and United have offered discounts to all elite members as well as cardholders. These discounts are going to shrink this year.
Delta Pricing
Delta currently offers a discount to Silver, Gold, and Platinum Medallion® members, as well as those holding co-branded credit cards. This rate has been $109. Starting next month it will increase to $149. Basic members were paying $119 and this will jump to $179. CLEAR® will still be comped for Delta Diamond Medallion® and 360° members.
United Pricing
United pricing will continue to match Delta. Premier Silver, Gold, and Platinum members, as well as United co-branded cardholders, will pay $149 (an increase of $40). MileagePlus members without status or a card will pay $179 (up from $119). Premier 1K® and Global Services members will continue to get this complimentary.
American Express Credit
If you hold The Platinum Card® from American Express you can receive up to $189 in statement credits per year towards your CLEAR® Plus membership. This is another great benefit to holding this card. This is also provided if you carry The Business Platinum Card® from American Express or the American Express® Green Card. Enrollment required for this benefit.
Anthony’s Take: CLEAR® has saved me tons of time. As more people have gotten TSA PreCheck, those lines have gotten progressively longer. With CLEAR®, I never wait more than a few minutes. I like that the biometrics serve as my ID and I’m on my way.
Anthony’s Credit Card Pick: I find great value in The Platinum Card® from American Express. It has had a prominent place in my wallet for many years now. While it does have an annual fee of $695, I find the great benefits (like the one listed above), plus many others more than cover this cost.
