Avelo Airlines is a low-cost carrier that launched in 2021 and has been quickly growing. The airline operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft and serves destinations across the United States. Avelo serves 44 destinations across 24 states and competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines.

Today, the carrier announced new service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Memphis International Airport (MEM) and Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC). These flights will operate 2x weekly on Mondays and Fridays. With these two new routes, Avelo is serving 12 markets from Raleigh-Durham.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy commented:

RDU – it’s time to take off to Memphis and Rochester! We’re excited to continue our growth at RDU and demonstrate our commitment to The Triangle region. We’re doing this with travel-inspiring low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service. Now with nonstop hometown airport access to 12 popular summer getaways, Avelo is quickly becoming Raleigh-Durham area residents’ airline of choice.”

These aren’t the only new routes for Avelo out of RDU. Starting June 21st, it will fly to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) and Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) will launch on June 23rd. Avelo is further adding additional frequencies to Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL), and Orlando International Airport (MCO).

In addition to these markets, Avelo serves the following from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU):

  • Fort Myers, FL via Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
  • Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA)
  • Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)
  • Wilmington Airport (ILG) (begins June 22nd)

Anthony’s Take: I have yet to fly Avelo, but I am open to try them if there is a convenient flight. Expansion is always a good thing as it puts pressure on the legacy carriers to offer more competitive fares. Flyers out of RDU have some great choices coming up.
