Last month, I wrote about Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy™, which is the hotelier’s new premium and luxury apartment-style accommodations with private bedrooms, a separate living areas, full kitchens, and in-unit laundry. The first location is already open in Puerto Rico and now Marriott has announced several new properties in the works.
Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy™ will let developers build new properties or convert existing ones with a unique design approach similar to the Autograph Collection and Tribute Portfolio brands where each hotel has its own style. These properties will not provide amenities like other extended-stay hotels and they will not offer food and beverage, meeting spaces, or daily housekeeping.
Marriott is planning to open four more locations in the near future. New properties include:
- Detroit, MI: This location is scheduled to open in Q3 2024. It will have 92 units and a 500-square-foot fitness center.
- St. Louis, MO: This 50-unit property will be located next to an upcoming Sheraton Hotel as an extended-stay alternative.
- Aosta Valley, Italy: Le Géant, an Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy will have 47 units with each incorporating locally-inspired design.
- Sindalah, Saudi Arabia: This 218-unit property will open in 2024 with a gym and pool.
Marriott International Chief Financial Offer and EVP of Development, Leeny Oberg, said:
Marriott is thrilled to bring Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy to our development community around the world. This new, compelling offering provides residential and hotel developers an excellent value proposition for new builds and conversion opportunities. As guests are increasingly blending work, personal and family travel, they are looking for a distinct and locally inspired solution to meet their longer-stay needs.”

Anthony’s Take: I’m not sure I’ll ever stay under this brand umbrella and I’m not sure why Marriott needed another extended stay, apartment-style brand (it already has Marriott Executive Apartments and Homes & Villas by Marriott). While these properties will be managed by Marriott (unlike Homes & Villas by Marriott, which is akin to Airbnb), I still prefer hotels and all of the amenities that come with them.
