Marriott unveiled Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy™ in November 2022. The new brand offers premium and luxury apartment-style accommodations with private bedrooms, a separate living room, a full kitchen, and in-unit laundry. This is yet another brand in Marriott’s ever-growing portfolio and one that hopes to attract travelers looking for more space as they blend work and leisure trips.

Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy™ will let developers build new properties or convert existing ones with a unique design approach similar to the Autograph Collection and Tribute Portfolio brands where each hotel has its own style. These properties will not provide amenities like other extended-stay hotels and they will not offer food and beverage, meeting spaces, or daily housekeeping.

Casa Costera 1

Casa Costera is the first location (which is now accepting reservations). It’s located in the Isla Verde neighborhood of San Juan, Purto Rico. The 107-unit building boasts a rooftop pool with views of the sea and mountains and is close to the beach. It looks to appeal to both tourists looking for warmer weather and beach vacations as well as business travelers seeking a change of locale for their workdays. This property also offers a 24-7 fitness center. A minimum stay of two nights is required and rates are around $200 per night.

Brian Povinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Head of Marketing and Brand, said:

Consumers looking for longer term accommodations, whether traveling solo or as a family, are increasingly blending work and leisure trips and seeking out the residential amenities that Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy offers. Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy complements our extraordinary hotel brands and should help increase guest loyalty for our entire global portfolio of nearly 8,700 hotels.”

Anthony’s Take: I’m not sure I’ll ever stay under this brand umbrella and I’m not sure why Marriott needed another extended stay, apartment-style brand (it already has Marriott Executive Apartments and Homes & Villas by Marriott). While these properties will be managed by Marriott (unlike Homes & Villas by Marriott, which is akin to Airbnb), I still prefer hotels and all of the amenities that come with them.
