Alaska Airlines is thinking ahead to when the weather gets cold with several new coast-to-coast flights announced for this winter. The three new routes connect Portland and Miami, Palm Springs and New York, and San Luis Obispo and Las Vegas.
Portland to/from Miami
Alaska will start this daily, year-round flight on November 17th. This is the 42nd destination served from Portland International Airport (PDX) and the fourth city in Florida (Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa are the other three). This is the second nonstop to Miami International Airport (MIA) with the current flight running to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
Palm Springs to/from New York
This seasonal flight connects New Yorkers with the sunny desert. Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) and New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) service begins on December 14th. Alaska has more flights to Palm Springs than any other airline.
Harry Barrett, Executive Director of Aviation at Palm Springs International Airport, commented:
The introduction of Alaska Airlines’ nonstop service from Palm Springs to New York’s JFK airport is a welcome addition for Palm Springs International Airport. This new service not only strengthens our ties with one of the world’s most influential cities but also contributes to the economic growth and vitality of our region. We extend our sincere gratitude to Alaska Airlines for their commitment to enhancing travel options and for choosing Palm Springs International Airport as a key part of their expanding network.”
San Luis Obispo to/from Las Vegas
This daily flight will connect San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport (SBP) (in California’s Central Coast region) with Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). Alaska also flies nonstop to San Diego, Portland, and Seattle from this airport.
Anthony’s Take: There have been so many route announcements recently. This is truly a testament to travel demand and building route networks that are convenient and allow travelers to get out and explore with less connections.
