World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards are ending their partnership on September 30th. This is sad news for Hyatt loyalists as earning points and stay credits at MGM properties in Las Vegas has been great since this relationship started in 2013.
Personally, I’ve earned tons of points and credits toward Globalist status through the years with stays at Bellagio, Aria, and other MGM Resorts.
New reservations at participating MGM Resorts in Las Vegas with checkout dates prior to September 30th can still be made through Hyatt. These reservations will receive the same benefits they do today. After September 30th, World of Hyatt members will no longer be able to make new reservations through Hyatt or add their MGM Rewards numbers to stays.
Status matches will also be coming to an end. I have appreciated holding status with MGM Rewards since this relationship started. For several years, I was even comped MGM’s invitation-only Noir status. This got me some good upgrades, access to a private check-in lounge/line, and the ability to cut the taxi and buffet lines at MGM properties. World of Hyatt members who tier match into MGM Rewards between February 1st and July 14th will receive their tier match status through January 31, 2024. MGM Rewards Gold members who achieve their Tier Status through the tier match benefit between February 1st and July 14th will have their resort fees waived for direct bookings made through MGM Resorts through January 31, 2024.
A vague statement was released as to why the partnership is ending. It reads:
After careful consideration, MGM Resorts and World of Hyatt have decided to end their strategic relationship effective September 30, 2023.”
This doesn’t tell us much. Hyatt recently announced the conversion of the Rio Las Vegas to a Hyatt Regency (with some of the hotel potentially being split out to another Hyatt brand). This will give Hyatt 2,510 rooms. With this new property coming, Hyatt doesn’t need the footprint that MGM once provided.
Anthony’s Take: I am going to miss this partnership. It has earned me tons of points and stay credits through the years. I’ll continue to stay at the Bellagio, but will miss the benefits.
