A fire broke out early yesterday morning at the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel and Conference Center. This triggered a large emergency response and the evacuation of 380 guests.
The blaze began in the hotel’s illuminated exterior logo with flames causing parts of the sign to break off and fall. Authorities believe the incident may have been caused by a short circuit (an official investigation is still underway). The area below was cordoned off due to concerns about falling debris after the fire was contained.
All guests and staff were evacuated from the hotel as a safety precaution. They were temporarily relocated to the nearby Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol while crews worked to extinguish the fire. Once the situation was under control and guests were allowed to return to their rooms.
Anthony’s Take: Despite the dramatic response and evacuation, there were thankfully no injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed that the fire was quickly brought under control and did not spread beyond the logo. I can’t imagine waking up to see the hotel’s logo in flames.
