My favorite part of the Marriott portfolio is the St. Regis brand. Marriott announced this week that The Resort at Kapalua Bay, a luxury oceanfront property on Maui’s northwest coast, would be converted to join the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts portfolio in 2027. This will be a return for the St. Regis brand as the last property in Hawaii, the St. Regis Princeville Resort on Kauai’s North Shore was rebranded and renovated into the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.
Although the property is entering a new phase and rebranding under Marriott’s management, The Resort at Kapalua Bay will remain open and continue welcoming guests throughout the conversion process. Following a renovation, the resort is expected to be a St. Regis property by 2027. Set across 25 oceanfront acres within the larger Kapalua Resort community, the property occupies one of Maui’s most sought-after stretches of coastline. The resort features 146 expansive multi-bedroom ocean-view residences designed to combine the comfort and privacy of residential accommodations with the services and amenities of a luxury resort. Residences range in size from 1,774 square feet to more than 4,050 square feet and overlook tropical gardens and the Pacific Ocean.
Guests at The Resort at Kapalua Bay have access to a wide range of upscale amenities (including championship golf courses and tennis courts within the Kapalua community). The property also features a 40,000-square-foot spa with 19 treatment rooms, ocean-view wellness facilities, and direct access to Kapalua Bay Beach. Other amenities include several outdoor swimming pools, highlighted by a multi-tiered cascading lagoon pool, as well as 3,415 square feet of indoor meeting space and more than 30,000 square feet of outdoor event space.
The addition of The Resort at Kapalua Bay further expands Marriott’s presence in Hawaii. The company already has around 30 open properties and six more in development.
Dana Jacobsohn, Marriott International Chief Development Officer of Global Mixed Use and Luxury in North America, said:
We are proud to work with Kemmons Wilson on the evolution of this exceptional resort. Kapalua Bay is one of the most iconic leisure destinations in the world, and this agreement reflects our continued momentum in growing a best-in-class luxury resort portfolio that resonates with today’s discerning luxury traveler.”
Anthony’s Take: Once the renovation is complete and the resort joins the St. Regis portfolio, the brand will once again have a presence in Hawaii. I’m always excited to see more properties under this flag.
