Last month, I wrote about EVA Air planning nonstop service between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in July 2026. That date has been bumped up a bit and will actually start on June 26th. This will be the first nonstop route to the US capital operated by a Taiwanese passenger airline. The move expands EVA Air’s presence in North America and addresses a long-standing gap in nonstop connectivity (and a nice win for passengers connecting through one of United’s East Coast hubs).
EVA Air plans to operate the route 4x weekly between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The flights will be served by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 26 in Royal Laurel Class (Business Class), 28 Premium Economy, and 224 Economy Class seats.
The addition will bring the carrier’s North American network to 10 destinations and 98 weekly flights. At 7,864 miles, the flight will rank among EVA Air’s longest (just shy of its Houston flights to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), but expected to face longer flying times due to routing constraints from Russian airspace closures. Other EVA Air flights in North America include:
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
- Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
EVA Air President, Clay Sun, said:
North America has long been a key strategic market for EVA Air. Following the launch of our Dallas-Fort Worth route last year, which made us the only airline in Asia to serve two destinations in Texas, we are further expanding our U.S. network with nonstop service to Washington, DC. This strengthens our presence on the East Coast and allows us to better serve one of the nation’s most influential markets, home to the political heart of the US and a high concentration of global enterprises. The addition of the Washington, DC route strengthens our North American network, while providing passengers with more flexible, efficient, and comfortable travel options.”
Anthony’s Take: This route makes sense for EVA Air given its Star Alliance membership and this being a United hub. If EVA Air starts service it beats out its Taiwanese competitors: China Airlines and STARLUX Airlines (both are rapidly trying to grow in the US and the three have been copying each other’s routes).
