As I wrote about last week, Canada’s Porter Airlines is continuing its US expansion with the launch of new nonstop service to Nashville International Airport (BNA) this spring. This further strengthens its cross-border footprint while adding unique connectivity from downtown Toronto at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). Porter will also add new flights to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Miami International Airport (MIA), and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).

Beginning May 11th, Porter will introduce daily nonstop flights between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and Nashville International Airport (BNA). The route will be operated using the airline’s De Havilland Dash 8-Q400 aircraft. These are configured with 78 Economy Class seats and offer travelers a convenient option from Toronto’s city-center airport to one of the fastest-growing leisure and business destinations in the United States.

The Nashville launch comes as Porter celebrates continued momentum across its US network. It has also introduced seasonal nonstop service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). This marks Porter’s first transborder route from Western Canada. Flights operate daily through April 19th and are flown on the Embraer E195-E2.

The airline promises that all passengers receive “celebrity treatment with Porter’s elevated economy experience.” It offers a 2-2 seating configuration and offers a premium experience to all passengers with complimentary snacks, beer, and wine served in glassware, and free Wi-Fi. PorterReserve passengers enjoy additional benefits such as priority check-in, enhanced legroom, and fresh, healthy meals, while these features can also be purchased à la carte with PorterClassic fares.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) now represents Porter’s third route to the Arizona hub, joining year-round service from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and seasonal flights from Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW). Additional connectivity is available through Porter’s partnership with American Airlines. This allows travelers to connect onward from Phoenix to tons of destinations across the United States and beyond.

Porter is also bringing warmer-weather connectivity to the Canadian capital in 2026 with new inaugural routes from Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) to both Miami International Airport (MIA) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). These services represent the only nonstop links between Ottawa and each of those US destinations. Miami flights launched January 24th with 3x weekly frequencies, while Phoenix service began February 7th (also operating 3x weekly). Miami International Airport (MIA) joins Ottawa’s growing Florida lineup, which already includes Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Fort Myers’ Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Tampa International Airport (TPA).

In addition to Miami and Phoenix, the airline will launch a daily nonstop flight from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) on May 14th (also operated by the Q400).

The new Nashville and Boston routes arrive as competitive pressure increases at Porter’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) stronghold. Air Canada is set to introduce US flights from there to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) on March 29th, with additional services to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) planned for the summer. While Porter will face competition on both the Nashville and Boston markets, Air Canada serves Nashville from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) rather than the downtown Porter hub.

Anthony’s Take: With Nashville now on the map and multiple US routes launching across Canada, Porter Airlines continues to position itself as a growing force in North American cross-border travel. It’s good to see travel coming back between the two countries even if politics have not returned to normal.

If PORTER tightens its Partnership with AA with Full Codesharing between the two carriers it should help in filling seats on both sides of the Border. The more Porter cooperates with AA and Alaska in the US there is a greater chance that further alignment and possible entry into ONEWORLD Alliance may become a possibility.
