British Airways is continuing to grow its transatlantic footprint with the launch of a new route between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). This marks the airline’s 27th US destination. The new flights begin on April 19th and run 4x weekly during the summer season.

BA 787-8

The route will be flown with Boeing 787-8 aircraft. These offer 35 Club World (Business Class), 25 World Traveler Plus (Premium Economy), and 154 World Traveler (Economy Class) seats. Onboard, passengers traveling in Club World will experience British Airways’ newest Business Class product, the Club Suite, on selected flights. The seat includes direct aisle access, a fully flat bed, and a 17-inch entertainment screen, along with enhanced dining and service.

The addition makes British Airways the only UK carrier to connect directly with St. Louis and offer travelers an easy gateway to the city’s historic landmarks and cultural attractions. Known for the iconic Gateway Arch, expansive Forest Park, and its celebrated food, music, and sports scenes, St. Louis provides a lot for both leisure and business travelers.

The route launch aligns with the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the legendary American highway that runs through St. Louis on its path from Chicago to Los Angeles. Travelers will have the chance to pair their flight with a classic road trip experience, exploring vintage diners, neon signage, and roadside Americana along the way.

The announcement follows a broader US expansion by the airline. Beginning in summer 2026, British Airways will increase service to several destinations, including 2x daily flights to Miami International Airport (MIA), expanded daily flights to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), additional frequencies to Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), and 14x weekly flights each to San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) will operate 9x daily flights exclusively from London Heathrow Airport (LHR), featuring premium cabins across its Boeing 777-200 fleet.

Lufthansa currently flies between Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). It’s great to see another nonstop flight to Europe being added to the map.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said:

St. Louis is a fantastic addition to our US network – it’s a destination in itself as a city with a rich history and a vibrant cultural scene, as well as a gateway to exciting destinations beyond this. As the only direct route from the UK, this service will open up exciting new opportunities for our customers and further strengthen ties between the UK and the US Midwest.”

Anthony’s Take: With St. Louis added to its growing network, British Airways continues to expand customer choice while reinforcing its transatlantic leadership to/from London.

Anthony,
Does BA charge those horrendous fuel surchages going to the UK? Or is is just leaving? Or both?

You’re charged the higher Air Passenger Duty (APD) leaving the UK for Business Class. Redemptions have taxes both ways, but this jacks up the leaving UK.
