Earlier this month, I wrote about how Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines passengers will be able to add long-haul segments on ITA Airways to a single ticket (beginning on July 1st). This was another step closer to ITA Airways’ full integration into the Lufthansa Group and eventual joining of Star Alliance next year. Now, ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group have announced that they are more closely aligning on benefits and lounge access.
Following the initial rollout of some aligned services in March 2025, ITA Airways passengers have already begun benefiting from reduced transit times, access to more than 130 lounges worldwide, and some integrated codeshare flights with the Lufthansa Group airlines.
Passengers eligible through the Volare or Miles & More loyalty programs will soon gain access to many more benefits.
Club Executive and Club Premium (Volare) Members Flying on Lufthansa Group Airlines
Club Executive and Club Premium members of the Volare loyalty program will soon see:
- Priority check-in
- Dedicated transit desk
- Priority boarding
- Fast Track security access
- Complimentary seat selection
- Additional baggage allowance
HON Circle and Senator (Miles & More) Members flying on ITA Airways
These most-loyal elite members will receive access to the same premium benefits listed above on ITA-operated flights.
Club Plus (Volare) and Frequent Traveler (FTL) (Miles & More) Members
These lower-level elite members of both programs will see:
- Priority reservation waitlist
- Priority airport standby
- Priority check-in
- One free additional checked bag
These aligned benefits further integrate ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group and ensure that elite members receive valuable benefits when traveling across all airlines.
Joerg Eberhart, ITA Airways’ CEO and General Manager, said:
The new Premium Services aligned with Lufthansa Group airlines’ offering represents a consistent step forward towards a smoother and more comfortable travel experience for our clients. These new features are the result of our close collaboration with the Group and further strengthen the collaboration we have been developing since the early stages of our partnership. Our goal is to continue raising the standards of service, making the most of the synergies with our partner to deliver an increasingly high level of connectivity, comfort, and quality.”
Anthony’s Take: I love that ITA Airways is being further integrated into the Lufthansa Group and that it will be a Star Alliance member in the future. It offers a great route network across Italy and Europe. This alignment is much appreciated as some of the benefits will hit Star Alliance Gold and Silver members in the future.
