I love movies about travel and airports. Combine that with a plot that takes place during the holidays, has lots of action,  and I’m sold. Netflix currently has a film that delivers on all of this and was fun to watch called Carry-On.

This is a holiday movie in the same way that Die Hard is one. It takes place at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Christmas Eve. While the airlines mentioned are fictional, you’ll see lots of Southwest, Delta, and other real airlines in the background. The movie takes place in Terminal 7 (which is normally United Airlines’ home at LAX) and focuses on the TSA and fictional airline: Northwind. The plot moves quickly and it’s fun to see some of the inner workings of the airport (although it was mostly not filmed at the real airport). Here is how the plot is described by IMDB:

A mysterious traveler blackmails a young TSA agent into letting a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Eve flight.”

I loved Jason Bateman as a villain in this movie. I don’t want to give away too much, but there are definitely some liberties taken around aircraft design and TSA policies. The film was shot in the old terminal building at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and I think the crew did a good job in making it look like LAX.

Anthony’s Take: This is a fun film for AV geeks and those who like suspenseful thrillers. It’s action packed and worth a watch.

I like Bateman, but that show was dumber than a box of rocks. Just one for instance, completely empty airport bathrooms whenever you need a showdown scene. Ha ha ha.
