While visiting family for Thanksgiving, we spent two nights at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson. We’ve stayed at this hotel many times and once lived just a few blocks away along the water in Exchange Place. The hotel is convenient for heading across the Hudson River into NYC with the PATH station next door. Its location also provides great views of Manhattan and the skyline.
Anthony’s Take: The Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson is undergoing a multi-phase renovation. The rooms and suites are complete and beautiful. The lobby is under construction and this also took the restaurant out of commission. There is a temporary ballroom set up for breakfast and it offered a robust buffet albeit without the views of the normal Vu restaurant. We have stayed at this hotel many times through the years and are looking forward to seeing the renovations completed on a future trip.
Booking
I booked 1 King Bed room on an award rate of 18,000 points per night. The hotel is a Category 4 property and room redemptions range from 12,000 to 18,000 per night when redeeming World of Hyatt points for a standard room. Rates vary but are generally around $300 per night.
I used a Suite Upgrade Award at booking to guarantee that we would be in the Hudson River Suite. The picture on the site above did not show the renovations.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
We rented a car at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). It took around 23 minutes to drive the 11.9 miles. We departed from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which took considerable longer.
Location
As mentioned above, the hotel is located on the waterfront in Jersey City. It provides great views and easy access to New York City. There are also lots of stores and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
Check-in
The valet is not operated by the hotel. The independent operator charges $54 for 24 hours and it must be paid when taking the car out. This cannot be billed to the room. We arrived at the hotel around 11:30 PM and our suite was ready. Reception lines are immediately inside the doors in a makeshift reception area while the lobby is being renovated. The agent offered late checkout, but we did not need it. The hotel does not have a Club Lounge and I was told breakfast was available in a ballroom on the third floor while the restaurant was being renovated. We had the keys a few moments later and were on the way to our room.
The elevators are located down the hall from reception past the pool and fitness center.
The elevator lobby and hallways on our floor were clean and in good repair. The renovations are complete here and look great.
Hudson River Suite (604)
There are 351 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The suite opens into a small hallway with a mirror and table.
The living room is to the left. It’s huge and a great space to hang out.
There is an L-shaped couch, chairs, and multiple tables.
Two arm chairs are near the balcony.
Another cabinet was tucked into the far corner.
Another bench is in the corner near the bedroom.
A TV was mounted on the wall across from the couch.
The balcony was small, but offered incredible views of NYC.
The bedroom was to the right. It contained a king-sized bed, two nightstands, another TV, a wardrobe, mini bar, and desk.
The bed was comfortable.
The desk was against the window.
There is no closet door and the wardrobe is near the entrance to the bedroom.
A TV is mounted on the wall across from the bed.
A mini bar was located near the bathroom.
It contained a coffeemaker, cups, coffee, condiments, and an ice bucket. A safe and refrigerator were also located here.
A small closet held an iron and ironing board.
The entrance to the bathroom was to the left of the mini bar. The bathroom was on the small side for such a large suite. It held a vanity with a single sink, toilet, and glassed-in shower.
A bar of Beekman 1802 soap was on the counter.
A small bottle of lotion was also found here.
The toilet was pretty close to the sink.
The shower was adequate with decent water pressure and temperature.
More toiletries and another bar of soap were on a shelf in the shower. I like that there were not wall-mounted toiletries in large bottles here.
Breakfast
As a Globalist, I was provided breakfast for two in the hotel’s makeshift restaurant on the third floor. For it being temporary, it offered a pretty impressive spread along with a wafflemaker and omelettes made to order.
After exiting the elevator on the third floor, you walk down a hallway to the ballroom.
There was a host stand, but no one there to seat us.
We walked in and were told to sit wherever we wanted. There was only one other table there while we ate.
Cereal and oatmeal
Breads and pastries along with a toaster for guest use.
Pancakes
Scrambled Eggs
Breakfast Potatoes
Roasted Vegetables
Chicken Sausage and Bacon
Fresh fruit and smoked salmon
A self-serve wafflemaker along with yogurt and whole fruit.
The hotel is already decked out for the holidays.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center, an indoor pool, multiple event rooms, an ATM, and not much else due to the ongoing renovations.
The fitness center is on the ground floor near the temporary reception.
It was on the smaller side, but offered a good amount of equipment.
Wipes for equipment were near the door.
Towels and water were also provided.
The pool was mobbed with children, so this photo is courtesy of Hyatt.
Overall Impression:
The Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson offers a great location and will be an even better hotel once the renovations are complete. I love the convenient location and will be staying here again next month.
