Spirit Airlines began flying between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on October 10th. The low-cost carrier now flies to 34 states, plus Washington DC, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and 20 other countries.
Daily, nonstop service between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) began on October 10th. Passengers looking to fly this route in the near future have the opportunity to earn 1,500 bonus points on roundtrip flights and 750 bonus points on one-way flights.

Spirit has been adding and cutting lots of routes as it balances delayed aircraft deliveries and working towards a profitable operation.
Anthony’s Take: Spirit now flies to 34 states. I’m not sure I’ll be headed to Alabama, but it’s great to see Spirit continue to expand.

I should add… what a fantastic Spirit trip. On the flight down to FLL and then on the flight to BHM, I was the only Gold. I got a special welcome to “our very frequent flyer, our one Spirit Gold member on board who we thank very much” on the BHM leg. Lead F/A was from Birmingham and her parents met the flight at the gate. F/O was from Birmingham (commutes from there) and her husband was there with their infant (in a Spirit onesie). The Regional VP of Stations for Spirit for that region is from Alabama and has season tickets in Tuscaloosa so real happy about this service… (he saw I was on the flight and was there in the jetway to shake hands). I’ve been Spirit’s first pax into a few cities now… JAX, CHS, RIC, PHL.
I was addressed by name on both flights and on the flight to FLL I had three different Flight Attendants thank me for my status. Spirit Gold status is really the one I’m most enthusiastic about amongst the FF cards “in my wallet.”
